5th Young Embryologist Meeting
Date: Friday 31st May 2013
Time: 9.30am to 5.30pm
Venue: Greenwood Theatre, Guy’s Campus, King’s College London
Plenary speaker: Prof. Azim Surani (University of Cambridge)
One of the key aims of the Young Embryologist Network is to encourage communication between researchers across institutions, thus enabling us to create a diverse and interactive research community across all career levels. The annual Young Embryologist Meeting (YEM) is one of the main events at which we aim to facilitate discussion of various topics of developmental biology in a relaxed atmosphere. Over the past four years, this has proved to be a successful event, bringing together scientists from across the UK and abroad.YEM:2013 is open to everyone and is free. It will be a full day event, running from 9.30am to 5.30pm on Friday 31st May. The meeting will be held at the Greenwood Theatre, Guy’s Campus, King’s College London. Lunch and coffee will be provided.
The meeting will consist of a series of talks and a poster session by young embryologists. Preference is given to PhD students and post-docs, and we aim to show a diverse range of topics and models. Prizes will be awarded for the best talks and posters, including, for the first time, a medal in memory of Sammy Lee.
We are pleased to announce that the keynote lecture this year will be named The Sammy Lee Memorial Lecture (sponsored by Sammy Lee’s charity: REGEN) and is going to be presented by Professor Azim Surani, from the University of Cambridge (his website can be found here). We will also be holding a Q&A Session about funding opportunities in science, as a follow up to the very popular Q&A sessions about scientific careers and publishing at previous meetings.
Following the meeting, we will adjourn to the nearby pub The Miller for informal drinks. The Miller offers a range of food, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Everyone is more than welcome to join us there from 5.30pm.
